Installation Support
If you're planning to install a Skystream wind system, your local authorized dealer will work with you to determine the best tower option and optimum location on your property.
For off-grid systems, once you have determined that you have the right conditions, you will need to determine the best place on your property to install it.
Proper siting of your turbine is critical to the performance and longevity of your investment. Poor siting in excessively turbulent conditions may cause fatigue to the turbine and/or tower, which can damage and shorten your generator’s working life.
STEP 1: Determining Your Wind Resource
There are several ways to ensure you have at least a 10 mph (4.5 m/s) average wind speed:
- Ask local authorities such as weather stations
- Check your surrounding trees for indications of strong wind flagging
- Have a site assessment and monitoring completed by a third-party professional
STEP 2: Locating the System on Your Property

Small changes in wind speed can have a dramatic effect on power production. The siting of your wind turbine should be carefully considered. Each installation is different and yours may require that you determine the best compromise between tower height, distance from the battery bank and obstacles such as buildings and trees. In general we recommend placing a system at least 20 feet (6 m) above obstacles within 250 feet (76 m).

STEP 3: Ensure Proper Tower Height
In general, the taller the tower, the greater the wind speed and power production. However, towers are expensive and can easily exceed the cost of the turbine.
Safety must be your primary concern when selecting the mounting location. Install your AIR or Whisper wind turbine so there is no possibility of accidental contact with rotating blades, even if it requires installing the turbine in a less than ideal location. SAFETY ALWAYS TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER EFFICIENCY.
Tower Options
There are a number of tower options for your AIR or Whisper wind turbine depending on your site requirements and energy needs. Link to the individual pages below according to your choice of turbines.
