FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 18, 2010

Worldwide leader in distributed wind energy systems will pursue new markets and expand product offerings to fuel aggressive growth

Dixon Thayer has taken the reins at Southwest Windpower and has wasted no time leveraging his experience in driving companies to their next level of success. Mr. Thayer, with a background in senior executive positions at companies like Ford Motor Company, Kimberly Clark and Sunbeam, knows how to quickly focus a company’s strategy on achieving breakthrough results. “I see so much potential in this dynamic company,” says Thayer. “We are ready to move to the next level and actively pursue a worldwide game-changing strategy.”

Mr. Thayer’s hiring demonstrates a redoubled focus by the company’s investors and board of directors for growing Southwest Windpower’s market-leading position in distributed wind energy systems by executing a focused strategy to more clearly distinguish itself and leverage its advantage as the market leader. In addition to several internal changes Southwest Windpower has engaged Bryant Park Capital, which has successfully worked with Mr. Thayer in the past, to pursue a few core elements of the company’s growth strategy. “Previously, Bryant Park Capital successfully worked with Mr. Thayer to pursue non-organic growth opportunities, specifically strategic partnerships and acquisitions. We see a new global focus on sustainable energy solutions and believe this is the ideal time for Southwest Windpower to implement its new strategy to address geographic and product line growth through every means available”, said Kurt Bermond, Managing Director of Bryant Park Capital.

Strategy #1 – Create a Robust European Market
Southwest Windpower will pursue opportunities to aggressively expand its existing operations in Europe, beyond its current operations in Cologne, Germany. The company’s premier grid-connected wind system, the Skystream, was recently approved for sale into the United Kingdom. Consumers in the United Kingdom have the knowledge, motivation and wind resource to make it one of the largest European markets for distributed wind systems. While Southwest Windpower has been selling into the European market for more than 15 years, the company’s European sales force will also identify new partnerships and alliances to build out the company’s distribution network and presence both in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe.

Strategy #2 – Develop Rural Electrification Markets
While the European and Western world may opt for small wind systems as an economic and environmental model, there are many places in the world that have no other access to energy but through stand-alone renewable energy systems. Southwest Windpower will develop a strategy for providing wind energy solutions to rural areas of China, India and South Korea. As these markets develop, Southwest Windpower will explore opportunities to expand distribution and manufacturing capabilities beyond its current Joint Venture operations in Ningbo, China to support key Asian markets

Strategy #3 – Expand Into New Product Offerings
Southwest Windpower plans to launch a few significant new additions to the product line in the fall that will include new products that deliver more energy in lower wind speed as well as advantaged new systems and services to support them. Additionally, Southwest Windpower plans to expand Research & Development and bring on new product offerings though mergers and acquisitions. Southwest Windpower is specifically interesting in filling out the product line with larger capacity turbine offerings.

Strategy #4 – Leverage and Enforce Intellectual Property
Southwest Windpower has a strong set of brands and has always been on the forefront of new technology within the small wind arena. Southwest Windpower plans to more aggressively protect its brand strength and pursue companies that are in violation of the company’s key intellectual property assets.

With these strategies in place Southwest Windpower plans for significant worldwide growth over the next three years.
