Southwest Windpower Winning Recognition Across Diverse Industries
Honored for business growth and technological innovation

Flagstaff, AZ – June 16, 2008 – Flagstaff-based Southwest Windpower, the leading producer of small wind generators, earned recognition from three distinguished industry groups including the Environmental Hall of Fame, the American “Stevie” Business Awards and locally, the Arizona Manufacturer’s Council.

Recognizing the nation’s leading environmentalists, the Environmental Hall of Fame chose Southwest Windpower to be inducted as a member this year. The ceremony recognized 14 of the most outstanding organizations and individuals for their longstanding commitment to helping create a green, sustainable planet and reduce global warming. Criteria for Hall of Fame award recipients included recommendations by peers, longevity in the environmental field and overall impact.

“We’re honored to be considered among such company,” said co-founder, David Calley. “From the beginning, the foundation of our business has been environmental responsibility and it is exciting to be recognized in that regard.”

Just a few years ago, the term “small wind” was an unfamiliar term, among the public and within the larger renewable energy industry. This is why the American Business “Stevie” Awards selected Southwest Windpower as a 2008 finalist for the Most Innovative Company award. Known as the business world’s version of the Oscars, the Stevie’s are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business. Southwest Windpower is among only 29 other finalists, selected from more than 2,600 entries.

Last but not least, the Arizona Manufacturers Council named Southwest Windpower the outstanding small manufacturer of the year, alongside Intel, who was named manufacturer of the year. “We’ve been here in Flagstaff since we started this business in a garage more than 20 years ago,” said co-founder Andy Kruse. “And the support of the local community has been a big part of our success.”

Southwest Windpower continues to grow exponentially – more than 100 percent the last two years in a row – and is working hard to keep up with consumer demand and developing cutting-edge technologies that put renewable energy solutions in the hands of the consumer.
