Three Peaks Elementary will be hosting the math calculator challenge for Iron District today at 1 p.m. in the school gym. Three winners from each elementary school will come together to compete in math fact drill, speed and accuracy. The calculators were donated to the fourth-grade, at each school by the Les Olsen Company. We appreciate their generosity. The school winners from Three Peaks are Camilla Causey, Alyssa Brush and Kinley Millett. We know they will represent us well. Tuesday, will be parent night with award winning presenter, Harmony Langford. This month's parent night will be done a little differently that usual. Parents will be meeting with Mrs. Langford in the library at 7 p.m, while the students are invited to a free movie, "Kung Fu Panda" on the projector screen in the gym at the same time. The PTA is sponsoring the event, and has secured the copyright agreements for the movie. The topic for this month's parent night is "Write On"- helping parents develop writing skills in their kids. Children's author, and BYU professor Brad Wilcox , will be at the school on Friday the 21st to present a writing workshop for students and teachers. Three Peaks is so fortunate to have him come. It is time for an update on the Three Peaks Elementary wind turbine project. The 45-foot-long and 1000 pound tower was delivered to the school last week. Alternative Energy Systems is doing the installation. They will be digging the tower hole, building the tower bolt framework and pouring cement this week. After backfilling and replacing sod, the cement needs to cure for a month. Then the 3.7 Skystream Turbine will be attached to the tower and lifted into position by crane. The children are excited about watching the daily progress. Teachers are busy studying and preparing integrated curriculum associated with the turbine for their students.
