Skystream Owners Celebrate Energy Independence
Share
As Americans prepare to celebrate Independence Day, energy remains a top concern for many families.
In many areas, the cost of electricity is soaring. Worldwide, demand for energy is growing, and supplies remain tight.
But now homeowners are taking control of their energy needs through the use of on-site wind generators, solar panels and energy efficiency.
Sharing Stories About Home Wind Power
We asked Skystream owners the question, "What does energy independence mean to you?" The stories and photos below are their answers.

Got my Skystream less than a month ago, and I think it is just the greatest thing! We are very excited to see what kind of difference it will make on our electric bill. My wife and I have done a lot of things in our house to help reduce our energy usage, and with some very simple things we have lowered our kilowatt-hour usage down from 2000 to below 1000 kilowatt hours. This was before getting our Skystream so we can't wait to see what will happen now that it is up and running.
We both felt that it was time to do something, not so much to lower the cost that we pay to our energy provider, but to do something to help the planet and reduce our need on fossil fuels that produce our electric power. Plus once our neighbors saw what we had done, they are starting to consider installing a unit of their own as well.
Thanks for making a great product!

This photo shows the installation process as my wind turbine was installed October 31, 2008. Each day as I watch this turbine converting wind energy into electrical energy I cannot help but think, "It may be small but each revolution of those blades is a step in making this great country of ours just a little less dependent on foreign oil.”

Everyone talks the talk about going green to protect the planet, stop global warming, etc, etc. Well, that's great and I am sure that it is important but for me it is all about independence! We are walking the walk. We have installed a solar collector for all our hot water needs and supplemental heating via floor embedded radiant heating tubing. When that is unable to keep up with demand (multiple cloudy days or extreme cold) we supplement it with a tankless water heater.
Of course our greatest addition to going green was the addition of the "Skystream" wind generator. It has allowed us to save a huge amount of money on energy costs and thus we have been able to seek other improvements to save on energy. One of the next projects is rainwater collection. With the roof size we have we are capable of collecting as much as 4500 gallons per inch of rainfall.
So my advice to anyone in today's economy, the investment in a wind generator, solar collector or rain collection are the keys to saving money, especially considering the tax advantages available.
God Bless the USA.

Energy Independence means to us using God's given natural resource, the wind, to supplement our electrical needs so that we use less fossil fuel and depend less on foreign oil. When the wind blows and we see the Skystream blades turning, it's not only producing electricity, but a cleaner environment, not only for us but also for future generations. My wife and I are pleased that we can be part of the solution and not the problem.
Our neighbors enjoy watching the turbine blades turn and are also interested in some day purchasing a Skystream. Since erecting the wind turbine, we have met numerous people who are interested in wind and energy independence.

We just put up our wind generator last month and painted it like the A-7 corsairs that I worked on during the Vietnam War. I am looking forward to the 40-80% savings on our electric bill.

We enjoy doing our part to help our country work toward energy independence. Our Skystream has been installed since September 2008. Since January 2009 we have produced 300 kilowatt hours of electricity. Attached is a very beautiful sunset and our Skystream.

For my family, energy independence means that some day our nation's greatest assets, our young men and women, will not have to fight on foreign soil. I truly believe that the primary reason we are currently engaged in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan is because of our interests and dependence on foreign oil. My oldest son, Erik, a Marine, did three tours in Iraq. He was wounded during his second tour. Fortunately, his injuries were not too severe, and he made it back in one piece. But there are still many American men and women stationed in foreign countries defending our nation, our home.
I sincerely believe that the United States is the greatest nation on Earth, and as such, we can overcome our dependence on foreign sources of energy. Currently, our Skystream wind turbine is the only one of its kind in our small community. I have already had numerous townfolk come by to see it. They all seem to like it, and many have commented that this is the way of the future. My wind turbine is going help bring our young men and women home. We are proud Americans.
Thanks for a great product and God Bless America.
