THEY'RE blown away by their new wind turbine!
Some people opt for gnomes in their back garden, but Jon and Penny Kemp have gone for a more unusual garden feature in a bid to help save the planet.
The Great Eccleston couple, who own Sustainable Energy Systems Ltd (SES) – a company which installs turbines and solar panels for home owners, businesses and schools – are delighted the UK's first American- built Skystream wind turbine has started to spin in their back garden on Hall Lane.
Mrs Kemp said the whole family, including daughter Daisy, eight, and Jasper, five, are very conscious of being environmentally friendly.
She added: "The Skystream is a thing of beauty. We are so pleased with it, every time we see it turning it makes us feel good in that we are making the most of a free, natural resource.
"The wind used to be a nuisance, but now we love it, it makes the blades turn and that saves us money.
"It produces our energy consumption for half a year. At times it's producing more than we use so it feeds back into the national grid and the electricity company pay you for the energy."
The couple invited some 50 keen green members of the public into their garden to demonstrate the Skystream 1.9kW last weekend.
Mr Kemp said: "Because of the well designed blades, noise is kept to a minimum. We are also very impressed by the aesthetic design – the curved blades make it look like a garden sculpture."
The turbine costs around £9,000, excluding ground works.
Mr Kemp will be installing the Skystream across the North West for UK authorized distributor, Segen.
Andy Pegg, Segen chief executive officer, said: "This turbine generates exceptional levels of power for its cost and is quiet and visually aesthetic.
"I am sure it will soon become just as popular here as it is across the Atlantic."
