Fun With Wind
Grab the Wind and Go
When the power of wind meets up with the inventiveness of the human mind, you just never know what weird and wacky (or perfectly useful) innovations might blow into our everyday lives. See which way the wind blows today.
This sculpture in downtown Vail, Colo. was made by Mark White. The wind turns the two sides in opposite directions, creating the look of a large bronze kaleidoscope in motion.
This wind-powered sculpture is located in an art park near the Webb Bridge in the west end of Melbourne, Australia:
Two German men and their wind powered car have surpassed several Guinness Book of World Records in their trip across Australia. The vehicle is the first of its kind to cross the Southern Australia in a wind powered car, complete the longest distance travelled in a 36 hour period and travel the most distance overall in a wind powered car.
How does the car harness the wind to make such an efficient and record breaking journey? In the evening, the team sets up their Whisper, a personal wind turbine from Southwest Windpower’s line of off-grid turbines, to generate power that recharges the car’s battery overnight. Throughout the day the car runs off the battery or even uses a kite for extra power generation if needed. Check it out: Read more »
