Wind energy subsidies: What’s in it for me?

Wind energy subsidies: What’s in it for me?

In our “Is Wind for You?" series we will discuss frequently asked questions and concerns when it comes to purchasing and installing a personal wind turbine.

How would you feel if we told you that the government would help you pay to produce energy for your home? Sound like an offer that’s too good to be true? Well, it’s not!

The US federal government has some great incentives for wind turbine installation on your property. The Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit and the Business Energy Investment Tax Credit offer incentives for both homeowners and businesses to install personal wind turbine systems. Not only will wind energy help reduce power costs, but the federal government could put up to 30 percent of the costs back into your pocket.

In addition to federal incentives, your state may have additional incentives that encourage the generation and use of renewable energy on your property. Incentives vary by state and can be found using the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE).
