Cathodic Protection
Cathodic protection is a method of preventing corrosion of metal pipes, industrial systems or other infrastructure that is submerged in water or buried in the earth. Corrosion is prevented by running a low-voltage electric current to the metal (cathode) that needs protection. Windpower-charged battery banks perform beautifully in this application.
Southwest Windpower’s turbines are used to power cathodic protection systems for submerged marine platforms, oil and natural gas pipelines, oil and natural gas wells and tank bottoms throughout the world.
